From angelic heights for being one of E3 2013’s biggest hits to hell for falling short. ‘Watch Dogs’ is the living example of how a video game can go from internet hatred caused by insecurity to one of the most promising franchises.

‘Watch Dogs 2’ shows that a saga can recover from any setback and regain public attention with a little care. Ubisoft creates an appealing product in a calendar of exciting releases and shows that its teams are sandbox experts with its new hacker story.

Describe Watch Dogs 2.
In a new attempt to exploit the open world genre, Ubisoft recreates the first ‘Watch Dogs’ with a hacking adventure. In ‘Watch Dogs 2’, we control Marcus, a young man besieged by a corporation that has branded him a possible criminal based on its system’s information.

The CtOS system monitors all San Francisco residents as if it were a pre-crime to identify potential threats. CtOS controls everything in the city, from webcams to mobile devices and home security systems, and uses that data for profit.

Marcus, like Anonymous, takes matters into his own hands and unmasks the organisation with another group of hackers. Social media manipulation of elections, police use of the system to hide crimes, and domestic assistance robots to improve military programs will be revealed.

We must use our hacking tools to eliminate these organisations, either by hiding or by exploiting the chaos caused by our weapons and control of every electronic device in the scene.

How to play Watch Dogs 2?
Imagine a ‘Grand Theft Auto‘ where you buy or steal cars to complete story-advancing missions. ‘Watch Dogs 2’ wouldn’t be distinguished from that genre without its hacks, which add depth.

Opening doors or blowing up gas pipes when an enemy passes by are just the beginning of digital tools that will control everything around us. Thus, using our drones, we can sneak up to mark enemies or plan a strategy and send false warnings to the police or other gangs to attack the complex we want to infiltrate.

The ability to approach each new mission with a customised strategy means that repeating that infiltration system is never redundant, so mastering those hacker “powers” and the unpredictability of some of the situations we enter make each challenge fresh.

The fact that we don’t have all the powers at the start helps us unlock and improve them as we gain experience points by completing missions, special challenges, and collecting the many collectibles in the setting.

How is it different from Watch Dogs 1?
You may have heard about the first ‘Watch Dogs’ and not been impressed. This saga began with a technically groundbreaking game that was later downgraded, earning the hatred of many players.

Both its story and mechanics were limited, as the script tried to sell us everything about CtOS from a dark perspective and the setting didn’t allow for much experimentation when playing.

If ‘Watch Dogs 2’ beats its predecessor, it’s because it masterfully fights this, first by abandoning the tone of a crime novel for that of a B-series popcorn action movie and, more importantly, by giving us plenty of room to act like a goat, playing with our enemies to manipulate and annoy them from afar.

Leaving aside the graphics and downgrade stigma, ‘Watch Dogs 2’ is a long and fun adventure that you can play as a serious game in which you do the least damage to the population or as a steamroller that uses a grenade launcher when things get complicated.

Is it worthwhile?
You must set barriers to decide if ‘Watch Dogs 2’ is for you. It is not ‘Grand Theft Auto’, so its graphics, script, and secondary mission options are inferior to Rockstar’s. Approaching it as a sandbox is not ideal, as the focus is on missions, rather than random exploration like in a ‘GTA’.
