The Lord of the Rings' will get new movies

Warner Bros. Discovery wants multiple ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ films. This move may be noticed by Amazon, which promotes ‘The Rings of Power’ (which will get a second season) based on JRR Tolkien on Prime Video.

The American news and entertainment conglomerate took a major step toward its ambitious plan. Variety reports that CEO David Zaslav announced a deal with Embracer Group, film rights holders.

WB Discovery doesn’t mess around. The announcement had intriguing details. First, “multiple” films are discussed. It indicates that there will be multiple film projects, though we don’t know the exact number.

The powerful company behind Discovery+, HBO Max, CNN, and other media and platforms has also said that its New Line Cinema label will develop these new projects, so their plans seem serious.

Getting things back on track gives the company a good chance of success. Peter Jackson’s trilogy grossed $3 billion worldwide and won numerous awards.

It’s no surprise Warner Bros. Discovery is betting. Amazon owns the television rights to adapt Tokien’s works, as mentioned above. The latter spent 450 million on the first season.

Although Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy is perfect, many companies want to add to its legacy with new films and TV shows.

What’s up with Lord of the Rings film and TV rights?

After Jackson’s trilogy and The Hobbit sequels, the Lord of the Rings franchise has been very profitable. In recent years, companies have been eager to celebrate Tolkien’s world onscreen.

Due to this, multiple companies are working on Lord of the Rings projects simultaneously. Break it down.

In the 1970s, Saul Zaentz bought the film adaptation rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit from United Artists, who had acquired them from Tolkien. This inspired the 1978 animated film and allowed Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to buy the rights to make and release Jackson’s two trilogies.

Warner Bros. fast-tracked production on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim in 2021 to retain film adaptation rights to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. December 2024 marks the release of this film.

The animated prequel to the trilogy, The War of the Rohirrim, follows Rohan king Helm Hammerhand (voiced by Brian Cox) fighting a Dunlending army.

Warner Bros. tried to keep their rights, but Embracer Group AB bought Zaentz’s film adaptation rights in August 2022. In 2023, Warner Bros. announced it would make more Lord of the Rings films after making a deal with them.
