What I have left to read after nearly forty years have passed from the year ‘2000 AD’

Everyone must engage in their own personal struggles. On the other hand, there is one of my own instances in which I have already given up. It is impossible for me to give up because the thrill I get from fighting it is indescribable. All the same, I am aware that I am destined to fail. ‘2000 AD’ is a veteran British science fiction comic that was the source of several renowned characters, including Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Robo-Hunter, and Strontium Dog. My goal is to read the entire comic book. I am also aware that this conflict is destined to end in defeat from the beginning.

As of the time that this article is being written, there are 2,373 issues that are currently being worked on, with one issue having just been published on March 20. A sum that is far higher than my available time and, more importantly, my energy levels. On top of that, it is not because I have not been methodical about it: I have been reading one issue each day for the past few months, which means that I have already read a couple hundred issues. However, if I read thirty books every month and four new books are published every month, with a consistent weekly frequency, then I could reach the present amount of books, but the distractions would be extremely difficult to overcome.

mostly due to the fact that as I continue to read, I find myself wondering, “Why not bring back that story that I loved so much fifty issues ago?” ‘Judge Dredd Megazine’ is the sister magazine of 2000 AD; it will have a total of 466 issues, which is equivalent to one issue being published every month! The current publisher of the magazine, Rebellion, does not give much room for focus either. In addition, they print compilation volumes every month that have the whole exploits of the characters. This allows me to avoid having to read them month after month. The temptation is always present, especially now that they are being reprinted in luxury forms and with pages that have been restored.

Let’s face it: I will never stop reading ‘2000 AD’ because it is the best comic in the world (the best in the galaxy, as they say! ), and I am extremely pleased with it. I will never stop reading it. Over and over again, on extremely thin, re-covered pulp paper, I continue to reread Judge Anderson’s early adventures, as I have been doing ever since I was a youngster. I picture a retired John Tones, people reading comics through advanced sensory immersion gadgets, and me continuing to do this.

Although I read ‘2000 AD’ for the first time, I was unaware of its existence because I read it in a ‘Mortadelo’. While the ‘Mortadelo Especial’ was being published in the late 1980s, it featured a series of self-contained stories known as ‘El tiempo en sus manos’ that were either four or six pages long. These stories were similar to the renowned film adaptation of HG Wells’s ‘The Time Machine’. There was one episode in particular that piqued my interest; it was a detailed account of the life of a man from the other perspective.

The narrative that left an impression on me started with the man’s death from a heart attack, and then it moved back in time, depicting this man repeating his entire life, regenerating, becoming a young man, a child, and eventually being “unborn” and gone. This is the story that left an impression on me. This is something that I read in a “Mortadelo Special,” I repeat. It fully captivated my attention, and it wasn’t until much later that I figured out what it was.

‘Twisted Tales,’ ‘Future Shorts,’ and ‘Pulp Sci-Fi’ are all stories that are self-contained and have a final twist, in the most classic style of ‘Tales from the Crypt,’ but in a humorous science fiction key and for all audiences. What I had read was an episode of ‘Future Shocks,’ a series that has a long tradition in ‘2000 AD’ and which has mutated in dozens of different ways in the years that followed: ‘Twisted Tales,’ ‘Future Shorts,’ and ‘Pulp Sci-Fi’… all of these stories are self-contained and have a final twist. The shock that I was waiting for was still to come: Alan Moore had been the one who had written the script for that story.

Moore, Grant Morrison, and Peter Milligan, all of whom are considered to be British comics icons, made their debut ‘2000 AD’ in the eighties. ‘Future Shocks’ was the ideal venue for them to hone their skills because of its ability to cover a wide range of topics and its self-contained nature. Later on, MC would compile stories of this nature into a comic book titled “Zero Time,” which was a source of fascination for me for many years. However, by that time, I had already reached out to Judge Dredd for the very first time.

A few years earlier, in several Zinco comics, they began publishing DC heroes in Spain. This was the beginning of their publishing endeavors. The adventures were derived from the American comic books of the character, which were not exactly the same as what was published in the British ‘2000 AD’ comic book series. It was not evident that each Dredd issue only contained four or six pages since they were colored and the pages were occasionally re-labeled or re-labeled. This was done so that the pages may be re-labeled.

My first meeting with the Dark Judges, which are considered to be Dredd’s most scary antagonists, took place there. The combination of Judge Doom’s magnetic personality and Brian Bolland’s extraordinary illustrations left me completely captivated. I was initially drawn to Dredd, but I quickly began to pick at other characters from ‘2000 AD,’ and I found myself enthralled by the novel combination of caustic comedy, brainless action from the 1980s, artistic filth, and characters on the verge of their sanity.
