‘Infobae Spain’ interviews the protagonists of ‘What are you waiting for?’, the new Atresmedia series based on Megan Maxwell novels.

Atresmedia will debut a new fiction project in Madrid on Wednesday. What are you waiting for?, based on Megan Maxwell’s novels, premieres on Atresplayer on Sunday, October 20 before its Antena 3 prime time premiere.

Infobae Spain interviewed Adriana Torrebejano and Rubén Cortada, who play Sonia and Can in the series directed by David Martin-Porras and Salvador García, at the launch of the series on Atresmedia.

Can, a handsome Turkish pilot, attends his conservative father’s monthly dinners to meet potential wives. “He’s a guy who lives and lets live, I think we’re quite similar in that,” Cortada says of his character, who shares his experience of failing to execute someone. “I’ve been honest about not judging for years,” he says.

Sonia is a single mother who unexpectedly attends one of her mother’s dinners to meet Can with her other two sisters. I love humour. I live with humour because I think it’s the only way to be in this life, and Sonia does too, says Torrebejano.

The actress says she is “very fond” of her character after a fun shoot. I was heartbroken when it ended. You say, ‘I hope the series works well and we make many seasons’ on set, she says.

Can and Sonia discover they share a lot of interests after their chance meeting, including sex without strings or emotional commitment. Adriana and Rubén agree that emotional scenes are harder to film than the high-voltage sexual scenes in this series.

“Accessing those complex brain areas is always delicate. The actor says the sexual or erotic part is just an agreement of limits so it’s not uncomfortable for anyone, while his partner says ‘the difficulty of this series was to be on that fine line between comedy, drama and everything the characters go through’.

To judge men and women who enjoy their sexuality differently, the Catalan woman says “there is still a lot of work to be done.” Her colleague says “women have the ability to do what they want and are capable of facing whatever they want,” but she adds, “we still have to talk about it and say that women are capable of doing anything. We must admit that much work remains.”

Adriana Torrebejano and Eva Ugarte will promote El Hormiguero on Thursday, October 17. The actress readily agrees to attend La Revuelta with David Broncano: “Of course. I love David and La Resistencia and want to go back.”

Yes, ‘What are you waiting for?’
Waiting for what? an erotic-romantic comedy about two couples who fall in love and their encounters and disagreements reveal two completely opposite but not conflicting worlds. The series will explore the contradictions of love in the 21st century and its protagonists’ search for sexual-affective patterns that distance them from patriarchal standards that have caused so many mistakes for their parents.

This is an adaptation of Megan Maxwell’s novels I Don’t Ask You So Much Either and What Are You Waiting For? (Esencia publishing house), which have sold over five million copies in 25 countries.

The series, produced by Buendía Estudios Canarias, Diagonal (Banijay Iberia), and DeAPlaneta, features eight 50-minute episodes filmed in Canary Islands and Madrid. The series stars Adriana Torrebejano, Rubén Cortada, Eva Ugarte, and Francisco Ortiz. The cast includes Llum Barrera, Mariano Llorente, Aria Bedmar, Ramón Pujol, Alba Planas, Pastora Vega, María de Nati, Ramón Langa, Antonia San Juan, Noa Álvarez, Manu Baqueiro, and Anna Moliner.
