The first trailer for this new version hints at ways, but the original series is unrepeatable.

Prime Video has been working on a reboot of ‘The Office’ set in Australia for months. Undoubtedly one of the most beloved and remembered sitcoms in history is the original series, which maintains the office setting and spirit. Noticeable changes will occur in some characters. We now have the trailer to start tasting this new version.

The franchise has had versions in Canada, Chile, Finland, France, and Germany, among others. This is the 13th iteration. The original version was a short series by Ricky Gervais for the BBC, predating the popular North American version. Being a Prime Video production, this one is guaranteed to arrive on televisions around the world, arousing special expectation.

The lead character will be a woman for the first time. Felicity Ward will play the equivalent of Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, Hannah Howard. Her subordinates show a total lack of enthusiasm when she announces that remote work is over and it’s time to return to the office in the trailer.

In this trailer, there are moments of awkward and grotesque comedy that point in the right direction, although replicating the chemistry of the original actors is very difficult. The new series may not replicate the emotional moments of American series yet, but the office workers in it will remind us why “there is no place like home.”

A strange phenomenon is The Office. Starting in the UK with Ricky Gervais’ David Brent, the show quickly became a huge comedy hit when it crossed the pond to the US with Steve Carell’s Michael Scott. The latest iteration of The Office on Prime Video has the potential to be the worst one yet, despite some people thinking the US reboot was very good. It is very unlikely that it’ll make it onto our best Prime Video shows list, though it is still early days. (I’m happy to be proven wrong!)

Tackling one of the greatest sitcoms of all time makes reboots tough. The US version was special due to its memorable characters, quotable moments, cringe humor, and heartfelt scenes. The Office Australia seems to be trying too hard to imitate the US version, making it feel more like a parody than a new series.

Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut on Netflix shares a release date with The Office Australia, which arrives on October 18. Some first-look images were dropped earlier this year, leading to this release date.

The new show is set in a fictional company called Flinley Craddick with an annoying, incompetent boss instead of Dunder Mifflin. Felicity Ward’s character Hannah Howard feels like she’s trying to be too much like Michael, frustratingly. The trailer teases characters reminiscent of Dwight and Andy, as well as a romance similar to Pam and Jim, raising questions about the show’s originality.

Hannah desperately tries to keep her “work family” together, leaning into modern-day topics like remote working. Hopefully, the Australian version can bring unique aspects instead of just mirroring American work culture. This provides relatable content for audiences, distancing itself from the original two offerings.
